Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar has said that budgetary allocations could be misused if corruption in public institutions remains unchecked, warning that financial resources may fail to reach their intended beneficiaries.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday after attending an educational workshop for members of upazila working committees at the Bhola District Jamaat office, Mia Golam Parwar described the proposed national budget as “extravagant,” heavily dependent on foreign loans, and oriented towards what he termed as “plunder.”

He argued that the government did not adequately consider Jamaat-e-Islami’s recommendations on key economic reforms, including increasing revenue collection, restructuring the tax system, curbing corruption, boosting investment, and reducing reliance on external borrowing by strengthening domestic economic capacity.

Golam Parwar stressed that no budget could deliver real public welfare unless corruption was addressed across major state institutions, including the tax administration, the Anti-Corruption Commission, the Public Service Commission and the judiciary. He warned that without reforms, there is a strong possibility that allocated funds could be diverted to serve partisan or personal interests instead of public development.

Calling for a revision of the proposed budget before final approval, he said it should be made more “people-friendly” and aligned with public expectations. He also criticised recent increases in gas, fuel, and electricity prices, saying that additional financial pressure on ordinary citizens would make budget implementation more difficult.

The Jamaat leader further cautioned that decisions taken without reflecting public aspirations would deepen the gap between the government and citizens. He urged policymakers to reconsider fiscal priorities to ensure transparency, accountability, and relief for the general population.

Mia Golam Parwar reiterated that strengthening governance and eliminating corruption were essential for ensuring that national development spending produces meaningful and equitable outcomes.
