A leaked audio recording that allegedly suggests a plan to shoot Shahjahan Chowdhury, a member of parliament from the Chattogram-15 constituency, has triggered concern in political and local circles in the south-eastern district of Chattogram.

The recording, which has circulated widely on social media, is claimed to feature Arman Uddin, a long-serving personal assistant to Jamaat-e-Islami MP Shahjahan Chowdhury, and BNP activist Tarikul Haque.

No one has yet verified the clip's authenticity.

In the audio, one of the speakers is heard questioning why the MP would visit Lohagara and making a reference to shooting him in the leg if he does so.

The conversation also includes remarks that suggest Arman Uddin holds influence over local affairs in Lohagara.

At another point, the discussion includes references to being ‘armed’ and warnings that such actions could draw police and military attention. The exchange has fuelled concern among residents and intensified political discussions in the area.

However, questions remain about the context of the recording and whether the conversation has been accurately represented. Authorities have not confirmed the identity of the speakers.

When approached for comment, Arman Uddin rejected the allegation, asking, “Why would I shoot Chowdhury Saheb?”

He later requested access to the audio file but did not provide further response when contacted again after receiving it.

Tariqur Haque, identified by local sources as the other participant, is reportedly linked to groups involved in sand extraction and earth-cutting activities in Lohagara, although this information has not been independently verified.

Repeated attempts to contact MP Shahjahan Chowdhury for comment were unsuccessful.

Chattogram District Police Superintendent Md Masud Alam said, “the matter was being treated seriously," adding that the authenticity, origin and involvement of those heard in the recording were under investigation. He said legal steps would follow once enquiries were complete.”

Police officials indicated that the audio may be sent for forensic analysis if required and stressed that no conclusions could be drawn until technical verification is completed.

The incident has added to growing political unease in the region, with residents calling for clarity as authorities continue their investigation into the alleged recording.
