The announcement was made in a press release on Monday, signed by Sadia Farjana Dina, a member of the party’s office cell. The party said its district and metropolitan units had been instructed to hold demonstrations at 5pm local time in their respective areas.
The move comes as the government deploys the army in six districts, including Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Faridpur, Gopalganj and Chattogram, amid concerns over possible unrest linked to the founding anniversary of the banned Awami League on 23 June.
An official from the political wing of the Home Ministry confirmed that troops would remain in those districts from 22 to 30 June. The official added that a formal order would be issued later in the day.
The deployment follows a phased withdrawal of the army that began on 6 April this year. Troops had been deployed nationwide after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government on 5 August 2024 before being gradually scaled back.
