The Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA) has removed its secretary general, Zakir Hossain Riaz, from his position, alleging that he was involved in activities that went against the party’s interests.

The decision was taken during an emergency meeting of the party’s National Executive Council on Friday. The meeting was chaired by JAGPA President and freedom fighter Khandaker Lutfor Rahman, according to a statement issued by the party.

The statement said the council decided to relieve Mr Riaz of his responsibilities with immediate effect on grounds of what it described as anti-party activities.

Following the decision, the council appointed Joint Secretary General Dewan Mohammad Rokon Uddin Hazari as the party’s acting secretary general.

Several senior leaders attended the meeting, including vice presidents MA Wahab, Dr Awlad Hossain Shilpi and Advocate Shahidul Islam. Organising Secretaries Mohammad Hossain Mobarak and Abul Hossain, Publicity Secretary Kamrul Hasan, Finance Secretary Md Mahfuzar and other members of the National Executive Council were also present.

The party’s statement did not provide further details about the allegations against Mr Riaz or specify the incidents that led to the disciplinary action.

The appointment of Mr Hazari as acting secretary general takes effect immediately, as JAGPA moves to fill one of its most senior organisational posts following the leadership change.
