Mohamed Salah has made it an unwritten rule to score on the first 'match day' of the season. He has scored in the first match of the league in 8 of the 9 seasons he has played for Liverpool. The only time the Egyptian star failed to score was in the first league match against Chelsea in the 2023-24 season. Of course, he scored in that match too. But the goal was disallowed by VAR.

At one stage in the opening match of the season on Friday, it was thought that Salah might not score in this match. But Salah scored a great goal in the fourth minute of added time in a dramatic match to give Liverpool a 4-2 victory. With this goal, he further consolidated the record for scoring in the first match of the league.

With this goal, Salah has scored 10 goals in the first match of the Premier League so far. He topped this record alone last season. After scoring in his first match against Ipswich Town in the 2024-25 season, Salah's goal tally rose to 9. This puts him ahead of Jamie Vardy, Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard, who have scored 8 goals each. This time, Salah has surpassed himself.

In addition to scoring goals, Salah is also at the top in terms of goal contributions. So far, he has been involved in 15 goals in his first match. Of these, 10 goals were scored by himself and 5 were assisted. Wayne Rooney is in second place on this list, who has been involved in 13 goals (scored 8 goals and assisted 5 goals).

In addition to the goal record in his first match, Salah reached some other milestones today. This was his 106th Premier League goal at Anfield. Salah reached the same position as Sergio Aguero in terms of goals scored at a single venue. Aguero scored 106 goals for Manchester City. Thierry Henry is still ahead on this list. He scored 114 goals for Arsenal at Highbury.

Salah has also reached the same level of Premier League goalscoring contribution as Ryan Giggs. He has been involved in 271 goals for Liverpool in 289 games, including 185 goals and 86 assists. Giggs also contributed 271 goals for Manchester United.

However, Salah looks set to overtake Rooney soon. He is currently joint fourth in the Premier League scoring charts. Salah has 187 goals, equal with Andy Cole. Only Wayne Rooney (208), Harry Kane (213) and Alan Shearer (260) have scored more.
