Bangladesh's national football team has risen three places to 180th in the FIFA World Rankings, its highest rank in nine years, following a spectacular victory over India on Wednesday night.
The last time Bangladesh was ranked higher was in May 2016, when it was 178th.
Bangladesh defeated neighbour India 1-0 in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers at home on Tuesday at the National Stadium, thanks to a decisive first-half goal by Sheikh Morsalin. The victory broke a 22-year winless streak against India.
According to the most recent standings, India has dropped all the way to 142nd place, six places worse than their previous position before the Bangladesh match.
The top four spots in the ranking remained unchanged, with Spain at the top, Argentina at second, France at third, and England at fourth. Brazil, a five-time World Cup winner, moved up two positions to sixth place.
