Bangladesh advances to the semifinals of the 2nd Women’s World Cup, defeating Thailand 40-31 in the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur on Saturday.
The winners extended the first period of play, taking a 14-12-point lead into the break.
Bangladesh will now play the semifinals versus Chinese Taipei, the Group A runners-up.
Iran will play reigning champions India in the other semifinal on the same day. The semifinals will take place on Sunday at the same site.
Bangladesh’s victory over Thailand clinched a medal in the ongoing World Cup.
Since the event began, Bangladeshi players and authorities have expressed their desire to win a medal. There was excitement in the red-green camp after defeating Thailand in a hard competition to go to the semi-finals and earn a medal.
