Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced a 15-member squad for the ensuing ICC Under-19 World Cup to be held jointly in Zimbabwe and Namibia from 15 January.

Pacer Al Fahad returned to the fold as the only change from the squad which played in the Under-19 Asia Cup.

He replaced fellow pacer Mohammad Sobuj, who found his place among the seven standbys.

Azizul Hakim Tamim will lead the Bangladesh Under-19 team with Zawad Abrar appointed vice-captain.

The team is set to leave Dhaka on Sunday night.

Ahead of the tournament proper, they are scheduled to play two practice matches against Pakistan and Scotland.

Bangladeshi youngsters were drawn in a tough Group A alongside India, New Zealand and the USA.

They will kick off the mission by taking on India on 17 January in Bulawayo, before facing off New Zealand on 20 January in Bulawayo and the USA on 23 January in Harare.

Top three teams from each of the four groups will move to the Super Six stage and will be split into two groups.

Two teams from each group with move to the knockout phase, featuring two semi-finals and the final, scheduled to be held on 6 February in Harare.

Bangladesh finished eighth in the 2024 edition in the Caribbean. The young Tigers lifted the title of the global event only once in 2020 in South Africa by beating India in a thrilling contest.

Bangladesh squad: Azizul Hakim Tamim (c), Zawad Abrar (vc), Samiun Basir Ratul, Sheikh Parvez Jibon, Rizan Hossan, Shahariar Al Amin, Shadin Islam, Mohammad Abdullah, Farid Hasan Faysal, Kalam Siddiki Aleen, Rifat Beg, Saad Islam Razin, Al Fahad, Shahriar Ahmed and Iqbal Hossain Emon.

Standby: Abdur Rahim, Debashis Sarkar Deba, Rafi Uzzaman Rafi, Farhan Shahriar, Farzan Ahmed Alif, Sanjid Majumder and Mohammad Sobuj.
