The escalating standoff over Bangladesh’s refusal to travel to India for the T20 World Cup has put ICC Chairman Jay Shah under intense scrutiny, according to NDTV.

The Indian media outlet reports that Shah faces a “stern test” as he seeks a resolution during a scheduled meeting with BCCI officials on Sunday.

The crisis intensified after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) sent a second letter to the ICC, framing the issue as one of “national honour” following the exclusion of pacer Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL over demands from “extremist groups.”

The board now seeks personal security guarantees for every player, coach, and official, signalling that the matter goes beyond safety to include dignity.

NDTV notes that a quick solution seems unlikely. Shah’s immediate task is to review security plans with BCCI and ICC operations teams, determine why Dhaka’s concerns were dismissed, and ensure that any resolution is mutually accepted to maintain the tournament’s credibility.

Excluding Bangladesh is not feasible, as it could trigger legal and political complications, require an ICC board vote, and destabilise the Asian Cricket Council.

The situation is further complicated by Bangladesh Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Nazrul’s public remarks that playing in India under current conditions would compromise national pride.
