Bangladesh’s participation in the T20 World Cup 2026 remains uncertain after a high-level video conference between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) ended without resolution on Tuesday.

Despite the ICC’s appeal to reconsider the boycott, the BCB maintained its decision not to travel to India, citing unresolved security concerns.

The board, led by President Aminul Islam and CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, reiterated its request to relocate Bangladesh’s matches to a neutral venue.

The ICC urged flexibility, noting the tournament schedule has already been finalised, but the BCB refused to soften its stance. “The Board’s position remains unchanged,” said the BCB in a statement, stressing that player and staff safety is the top priority.

The deadlock follows comments from Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Nazrul, who criticised the ICC’s security assessment as “absurd,” citing the controversy over pacer Mustafizur Rahman’s release from Kolkata Knight Riders amid alleged anti-Bangladesh sentiment.

Both sides agreed to continue discussions, but with the BCB firm on security and the ICC reluctant to revise fixtures, Bangladesh’s World Cup campaign remains in limbo.
