The iconic FIFA World Cup trophy arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday morning as part of the ongoing FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour.

Brazilian 2002 World Cup winner and FIFA ambassador Gilberto da Silva accompanied the trophy, which arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 10am.

Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) President Tabith Mohammed Awal received the trophy at the airport before it was moved to Hotel Radisson Blu for public viewing in the afternoon. Selected fans and invited guests will have the chance to see football’s most coveted prize up close.

Launched jointly by FIFA and Coca-Cola on 3 January in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the tour began with Italian football legend Alessandro Del Piero unveiling the trophy. The global journey spans 75 stops across 30 FIFA member nations and over 150 days, culminating at the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico on 11 June.

Bangladesh has previously hosted the World Cup trophy during the Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022 editions, continuing its tradition of welcoming the symbol of football excellence.

FIFA is also reportedly considering a 64-nation World Cup format for 2030.
