The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has categorically denied recent media reports suggesting that the ban on telecasting the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Bangladesh has been lifted.
In an official statement issued on Saturday, the ministry clarified that the suspension of IPL broadcasts, a decision implemented by the previous government, remains fully in force.
“The decision taken by the previous government to suspend IPL broadcasts still stands,” the press release said.
The ministry said it had taken note of a report published by The Daily Star under the headline “Govt lifts bar on IPL telecast in Bangladesh”, along with similar coverage in other media outlets.
According to the press release, such reports have created confusion among the public regarding the current status of IPL broadcasting in the country.
The ministry emphasised that the matter is under review and that it has already sought the opinions and recommendations of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Any future steps on the issue will be taken based on their guidance.
Finally, the Ministry of Information urged all media outlets to promptly publish the clarification to ensure accurate reporting and prevent misinformation from spreading.
The press release concluded by stressing that until any official decision is announced, the ban on IPL telecasts remains valid, and viewers in Bangladesh will not be able to watch the tournament on local channels.
