Pakistan international Fakhar Zaman has been charged with a ball-tampering offence during a Pakistan Super League (PSL) match, raising concerns over disciplinary standards in the ongoing tournament.
The incident occurred during Lahore Qalandars’ defeat to Karachi Kings, when umpires awarded five penalty runs after determining that the condition of the ball had been altered.
The penalty proved decisive in the final stages of the match. Karachi Kings, who required 14 runs from the final over, benefited from the additional runs and successfully chased down the revised target with ease.
According to an official PSL statement, Fakhar Zaman has been charged under playing conditions that prohibit any action which alters the condition of the ball.
“Fakhar denied the charge levelled against him during a disciplinary hearing led by the match referee Roshan Mahanama,” the statement said.
The league confirmed that a further hearing will take place within 48 hours, after which a final decision will be announced.
If found guilty, Fakhar Zaman could face a suspension of at least one PSL match, in line with disciplinary regulations governing ball-tampering offences.
The case highlights the PSL’s enforcement framework and its approach to maintaining fair play standards, as cricket authorities continue to take a strict stance on ball-tampering violations.
