Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has emphasised that identifying and nurturing talent from the grassroots level is essential for the long-term development of sports in Bangladesh.
He made the remarks on Monday while addressing the inaugural ceremony of a ‘sports card and allowance distribution’ programme held at the Prime Minister’s Office in the capital’s Tejgaon area.
The initiative was formally launched by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman as the chief guest, under the theme “If sports becomes a profession, family gets confidence.”
Speaking at the event, Mirza Fakhrul highlighted the country’s vast untapped potential in sports, noting that with proper guidance, training and support, young athletes could bring greater success for Bangladesh on the global stage.
He stressed that structured efforts to discover talent from school level would play a crucial role in building a strong sporting future.
Referring to the government’s plan, he said the Prime Minister has already taken initiatives to identify promising athletes early and support them through systematic development programmes.
He described the initiative as a practical and effective approach to strengthening the country’s sports sector.
Mirza Fakhrul also appreciated the government’s move to recognise and support athletes who have achieved success at international levels, expressing optimism that such encouragement would inspire future generations.
The programme was chaired by State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque and attended by several cabinet members, senior officials and sports organisers.
