Newly appointed head of the Bangladesh Cricket Board ad-hoc committee, Tamim Iqbal, has pledged to conduct impartial elections within three months and restore the administrative integrity of the sport.

The National Sports Council recently dissolved the previous governing board, led by Aminul Islam Bulbul. In its place, the statutory body established an 11-member ad-hoc committee under the leadership of Tamim Iqbal to oversee operations and administer a transparent electoral process.

Iqbal formally assumed charge on Tuesday night at the board headquarters in Mirpur. He immediately chaired the first administrative meeting, which was attended by six committee members in person and five virtually, according to official sources.

Addressing his initial press conference, Iqbal stated: “Whenever someone takes responsibility here, they often talk about development and various initiatives. But for us, the priority is clear, and we must restore the image of Bangladesh cricket.”

Acknowledging that the reputation of the governing body had deteriorated in recent years, he emphasised the necessity for collective institutional rebuilding. “We all believe that cricket’s image has been ruined. Fixing that is our most important task,” he added.

Regarding the specific administrative mandate issued by the National Sports Council, Iqbal outlined the operational priority of the committee. “We have been entrusted with organising a fair and impartial election within three months. We will carry out this responsibility honestly and as quickly as possible,” he remarked.

Alongside the electoral framework, the committee will sustain standard board operations. This mandate includes managing logistical and administrative preparations for forthcoming international fixtures, specifically the World Cup.

Noting that public and media scrutiny is a standard component of institutional reform, Iqbal said, "There will be criticism and discussions about our performance, which is normal. But no one wants Bangladesh cricket to remain in its current state.”

Furthermore, the committee has appointed Tanzil Chowdhury as the official spokesperson for the board. Chowdhury is mandated to brief the media and public on all formal policy and operational decisions moving forward.
