Bangladesh secured a 55-run victory over New Zealand in the series-deciding third ODI on Thursday, clinching the three-match contest thanks to a standout bowling performance by Mustafizur Rahman and a brilliant century from Najmul Hossain Shanto.
Batting first after losing the toss, Bangladesh posted 265 for 8. The innings got off to a shaky start after early wickets from New Zealand pacer Will O’Rourke, but Shanto and Litton Das rebuilt the innings with a crucial partnership that steadied the hosts.
Shanto played a commanding knock of 105 off 119 balls, anchoring the innings after Bangladesh were reduced to 9 for 2. Litton Das added a fluent 76 off 91 deliveries, helping Bangladesh reach a competitive total.
In reply, New Zealand were bowled out for 210 in 44.5 overs. Mustafizur Rahman led the attack with an impressive spell of 5 for 43, breaking the backbone of the Kiwi batting lineup after a steady start. His performance proved decisive in shifting momentum firmly in Bangladesh’s favour.
Dean Foxcroft offered resistance with a quick 75, while Nick Kelly contributed 59, but their efforts were not enough to chase down the target. Foxcroft was the last wicket to fall as Bangladesh sealed the win.
Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz praised his side’s execution, highlighting their understanding of the pitch conditions and timely breakthroughs. Fast bowler Nahid Rana also impressed, taking two wickets and finishing the series as Player of the Series with eight wickets overall.
Shanto, named Player of the Match, credited the partnership with Litton Das for stabilising the innings and setting up the win, calling it vital on a challenging surface.
