Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday formally launched the nationwide sports talent search programme titled “Notun Kuri Sports 2026”, aimed at identifying promising young athletes across Bangladesh.
The inauguration ceremony was held at Sylhet Stadium in Rikabi Bazar area at around 5pm, where the Prime Minister pressed a button and unveiled the event logo and trophy in the presence of children and teenagers.
The programme has been introduced with the theme: “Krira Hole Pesha, Paribar Pabe Bhorosa” (If sports become a profession, families will find hope). Young participants from district stadiums across the country joined the event virtually alongside those present in Sylhet.
With the launch, the initiative officially begins its nationwide journey to scout sporting talent from the grassroots level, focusing on children and adolescents across urban and rural areas.
The programme is a continuation of the earlier “Notun Kuri” talent initiative from the 1980s and has been revived as part of the government’s election commitments. It aims to identify talented individuals from union and ward levels, including city corporations, and develop them into skilled sportspersons.
Authorities said the main objective is to select children aged 12 to 14 years with sporting potential and provide them state-supported training and opportunities to develop their skills.
The initiative is being implemented by the Sports Directorate under the supervision of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
State Minister for Sports Aminul Haque and other officials also attended the inauguration ceremony.
