The result marks the club's third Scudetto in six seasons and sparked widespread celebrations across Milan, with thousands of supporters gathering at the Duomo cathedral. Goals from Marcus Thuram and Henrikh Mkhitaryan ensured the win, moving the leaders 12 points clear of reigning champions Napoli and 15 ahead of AC Milan with three matches remaining.
The title success follows a challenging period for the club, which lost the 2025 league race by a single point and suffered a 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. Under the guidance of coach Cristian Chivu, a former Inter player who was appointed last summer to replace Simone Inzaghi, the team has successfully rebuilt. Captain Lautaro Martinez noted that while the squad is celebrating, the recovery process was difficult after losing multiple competitions the previous year.
Cristian Chivu, who took over after Simone Inzaghi departed for a role in Saudi Arabia, has revitalised the side with minimal new signings. Elsewhere in Serie A, AC Milan’s mathematical hopes of catching the leaders ended with a 2-0 defeat at Sassuolo. Playing with ten men for most of the match following Fikayo Tomori’s 24th-minute red card, Massimiliano Allegri’s side conceded goals to Domenico Berardi and Armand Lauriente. The result leaves the team in second place but struggling for form, having lost four of their last seven matches.
Juventus failed to move into third place after being held to a 1-1 draw by relegated Verona. Despite dominating possession and taking 23 shots, the Turin side fell behind to a Kieron Bowie goal following a defensive error. Dusan Vlahovic equalised with a 61st-minute free kick, leaving Juventus two points behind AC Milan. However, the draw moved them three points clear of Como in the race for the final Champions League qualifying position.
