Bangladesh-origin American DJ and music producer DJ Sanjoy is set to perform at the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup 2026, marking a major milestone for the artist with roots in Bangladesh.
The upcoming World Cup will be jointly hosted by United States, Canada and Mexico, with FIFA arranging separate opening ceremonies across the three host nations. Additional celebrations are also planned in Houston and Philadelphia on 4 July to commemorate the 250th anniversary of US independence.
Sanjoy will perform during the United States opening ceremony at SoFi Stadium on 12 June ahead of the match between the United States and Paraguay. International stars including Katy Perry and Lisa are also scheduled to appear on the main stage.
Reacting to the announcement, Sanjoy described the opportunity as surreal and emotional, saying his journey from creating music in a home studio to performing on one of the world’s biggest sporting stages felt extraordinary.
He added that the achievement represents young people growing up between multiple cultures who believe their voices can reach a global audience.
The World Cup officially begins on 11 June at Estadio Azteca, where Mexico will face South Africa. The opening ceremony there will feature performers including Maná, Alejandro Fernández, Belinda and Tyla.
Other global performers scheduled across the tournament include J Balvin, Anitta, Danny Ocean, Elyanna and Vegedream.
