Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has congratulated the Bangladesh National Cricket Team following their historic Test victory against Pakistan, marking the first time Bangladesh has defeated Pakistan in a Test match on home soil.

The information was confirmed by the Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony.

Bangladesh secured a commanding 104-run win in the opening Test of the two-match series held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. The result added another milestone in Bangladesh’s growing record against Pakistan in Test cricket.

This victory is particularly significant as Bangladesh had previously recorded two Test wins against Pakistan in away matches. The latest triumph in Mirpur now marks their first-ever home Test win against the same opponent, making it their third consecutive Test victory in the head-to-head record.

In the match, Bangladesh set a target of 268 runs for Pakistan after a strong overall performance with both bat and ball across the two innings. Pakistan, however, failed to chase down the target and were bowled out for 163 runs.

The emphatic win was widely celebrated as a major achievement for Bangladesh cricket, reflecting the team’s improving performance in the longest format of the game.

The Prime Minister’s message praised the players for their determination, teamwork and historic accomplishment, which has further boosted national pride and enthusiasm among cricket fans across the country.
