Bangladesh's football enthusiasts will be able to follow every match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup through Toffee after Banglalink secured the tournament's digital streaming rights for the country.
The telecom operator announced the acquisition on Wednesday through its verified Facebook page, confirming that fans will have access to live coverage of all matches on the popular digital entertainment platform.
With the agreement in place, Banglalink subscribers will be able to watch the entire tournament live via Toffee. The company said the streaming service will be offered free to customers who activate specific internet data packages designed for the event.
The announcement ends weeks of speculation regarding how viewers in Bangladesh would access the world's most-watched sporting event through digital platforms. The move is expected to significantly expand access to World Cup coverage, particularly among mobile users who increasingly rely on online streaming services.
Speaking about the development, Banglalink Chief Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Officer Taimur Rahman said securing the digital rights would enable millions of football fans nationwide to enjoy uninterrupted and high-quality live coverage from virtually anywhere.
While the digital broadcasting arrangement has now been finalised, uncertainty remains over television coverage in Bangladesh. Industry insiders have expressed concerns over the rising costs associated with securing broadcasting rights, leaving local television networks, including state-owned broadcasters, yet to confirm their plans for airing the tournament.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, the 23rd edition of football's premier global competition, will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada from 11 June to 19 July 2026. The tournament will make history by featuring 48 participating teams for the first time, expanding from the previous 32-team format and increasing the number of matches and participating nations.
