Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has been elected as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), while Fahim Sinha has taken over as vice president following the completion of the board election process.
The decision came after a formal vote among the newly elected directors of the BCB, marking the final stage of the election process held on Sunday. With this outcome, Tamim becomes the 18th individual to assume the presidency of Bangladesh cricket’s governing body.
Tamim had earlier emerged as the highest vote-getter in the Category 2 election, which represents Dhaka-based club councillors. He secured 73 votes out of 76, demonstrating strong backing from the cricketing fraternity and strengthening his position within the new board.
His election as president follows the formation of the full 25-member BCB board, which was completed through a combination of direct elections and unopposed selections. The newly formed board is now expected to begin its administrative term with immediate focus on leadership structure and policy direction.
The 37-year-old former opening batter now steps into one of the most important roles in Bangladesh sports administration. His elevation comes at a time when expectations are high regarding the development of domestic cricket, strengthening of the national team structure, and improvement of overall cricket governance.
Officials concerned say his leadership will be closely watched as the board begins work on planning future domestic seasons, player development programmes, and broader reforms aimed at advancing Bangladesh cricket on both regional and international stages.
