Bangladesh has made cricket history by winning their first-ever One Day International (ODI) series against Australia. The home team played brilliantly on Thursday to win the rain-delayed match by five wickets in Mirpur. This victory means they win the series with one game left to play.

The win started with a fantastic effort from the Bangladesh bowlers. Australia chose to bat first but had a terrible start. For the first time in their long history of playing 1,024 ODI matches, Australia lost their first three batters without scoring a single run.

Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed started the damage by getting Matthew Short out. In the very next over, Mustafizur Rahman took two quick wickets, sending Cooper Connolly and Matt Renshaw back to the dressing room.

Australia kept losing wickets and were struggling at 81 for six. However, Marnus Labuschagne and Xavier Bartlett played well to help the innings recover. They batted well together, adding 103 runs to help their team recover.

Just as Australia looked strong again, Taskin Ahmed returned to take two more wickets. Heavy rain then stopped the game. At that point, Australia had scored 187 for eight in 42 overs. Taskin and Mustafizur were the best bowlers for Bangladesh, taking three wickets each. Spinner Tanvir Islam also bowled well, taking two wickets.

Because of the long rain delay, the match was shortened to 41 overs. Using cricket’s rain rules (the DLS method), Bangladesh was given a new target of 192 runs to win.

Bangladesh had a bad start when opener Tanzid Tamim got out in the first over. But Soumya Sarkar and Vice-captain Najmul Hossain Shanto resolved the problem. They batted carefully and put together an 86-run partnership. Both players scored 42 runs before getting out. During his innings, Shanto also reached a personal milestone of 2,000 ODI runs.

Later in the game, Bangladesh lost a few quick wickets. Litton Das scored 21 runs before he got caught, and Mosaddek Hossain was out for 14 after trying a big hit. The team was briefly in trouble at 144 for five.

Despite the sudden pressure, the remaining batters stayed calm. They safely scored the rest of the runs to win the game by five wickets. This historic win shows how much the Bangladesh team has improved, successfully chasing down a target to beat one of the strongest teams in world cricket.
