Brazil forward Vinicius Jr has said he is fully focused on team success rather than individual accolades as the five-time world champions prepare to begin their World Cup campaign against Morocco on Sunday in the United States.

Speaking at a press conference, the Real Madrid winger made it clear that his priority is helping Brazil secure a record-extending sixth World Cup title, rather than chasing personal awards or recognition.

“The World Cup isn’t starting tomorrow; for us, it began several days ago because we’re fully focused on preparation, development and starting strongly,” Vinicius said.

He added that individual honours hold no importance for him during the tournament. “I don’t care about individual titles. I’m not here to be the MVP or the best player in the tournament. I’m here to help Brazil win the World Cup and return to the top,” he said.

Brazil, who last lifted the trophy in 2002, have endured disappointment in recent editions, including quarter-final exits in the past two tournaments. Vinicius, who featured in the 2022 squad that lost to Croatia on penalties in Qatar, said those experiences have strengthened the team’s resolve and focus.

“The World Cup is different from any other tournament. The last one taught us that we must stay concentrated until the final whistle. We have learned from those lessons,” he noted.

The 24-year-old also said he is in strong physical condition after an injury-free season and described the tournament as the most important moment of his career so far.

Vinicius credited coach Carlo Ancelotti for his influence, saying the Real Madrid manager gives him freedom on the pitch while insisting on full concentration for all 90 minutes, where small details can decide matches at the highest level.
