The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has expressed its appreciation to FIFA President Gianni Infantino after he highlighted the enthusiasm of Bangladeshi football supporters to a worldwide audience through a social media post.
In a statement published on its official Facebook page, the federation thanked the FIFA chief for recognising the deep connection millions of people in Bangladesh have with football.
The BFF said, "The acknowledgement reflected the country’s growing football culture and demonstrated the energy and commitment of supporters across the nation.”
According to the federation, the recognition from the head of world football is a source of pride for Bangladesh’s football community and serves as encouragement for ongoing efforts to strengthen and develop the sport at all levels.
The response came after Infantino shared a post on Instagram on Tuesday featuring scenes of celebration by Bangladeshi fans after Argentine star Lionel Messi scored during the FIFA World Cup.
Commenting on the footage, Infantino said, 'Football's appeal extends far beyond national borders. He described the scenes from the University of Dhaka as a powerful example of how the sport unites people and creates memorable experiences across different countries and cultures."
“The passion for the FIFA World Cup knows no borders,” Infantino wrote.
He added that the celebrations following Messi’s goal demonstrated the unique ability of football to bring communities together through shared moments of excitement.
The post attracted significant attention online and further highlighted Bangladesh’s reputation as one of the most passionate football-supporting nations outside the traditional football powerhouses.
Football enjoys widespread popularity across Bangladesh, with major international tournaments often drawing large crowds and generating intense support for teams and players from around the world. Images of Bangladeshi supporters celebrating World Cup moments have frequently gained international attention, reflecting the sport’s enduring appeal in the country.
The BFF said, "Such global recognition can help inspire future generations of players and supporters while strengthening efforts to promote football development nationwide.”
