Andrea Pirlo has agreed to become the new manager of the Italy men’s football team, replacing Gennaro Gattuso after Italy failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
The four-year contract will keep Andrea Pirlo in charge through to the 2030 World Cup, with a salary of around €1.5 million a year. The decision was led by technical director Paolo Maldini and advisor Leonardo after Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti both turned down the role.
This is a big moment for Italian football. After missing three World Cups in a row—in 2018, 2022, and 2026—the team is now beginning a lengthy rebuild to return to the top.
With the deal agreed, an official announcement is expected very soon.
