Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday that his negotiators were awaiting word from the United States on further meetings aimed at ending the war with Russia.

His comments in an evening address suggested that a second round of talks, due to begin in Abu Dhabi on Sunday between US, Russian and Ukrainian officials, may have been postponed.

“Ukraine is ready to work in all formats,” Zelensky said.

“It is important that there are results and that the meetings take place. We are counting on meetings next week and are preparing for them.”

Zelensky was speaking as US envoy Steve Witkoff said he had held “productive and constructive” talks with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev in Florida earlier on Saturday.

Ukrainian and Russian delegations met on Friday and Saturday last week in Abu Dhabi for their first face-to-face negotiations on a US-backed plan promoted by President Donald Trump to end the war.

The two sides had agreed to resume talks there on Sunday.

However, Zelensky suggested on Thursday that the date and venue could change because of heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran.

The United States says both sides are close to an agreement, but Kyiv says they have yet to reach a compromise on the central issue of territory in any post-war settlement.
