Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet US President Donald Trump in Washington on Wednesday to “discuss with him the negotiations with Iran,” the premier’s office said.

Netanyahu “believes any negotiations must include limitations on ballistic missiles and a halting of support for the Iranian axis,” the statement added, referring to Iran’s regional allies.

Wednesday’s meeting will be the sixth between the two leaders since Trump took office a year ago.

Iran and the US held indirect negotiations in Oman on Friday, with Trump saying the talks would resume early next week.

Although both the US and Israel regard Iran as an adversary, Israel has adopted a more hardline stance, opposing direct negotiations between Tehran and Washington.

Geopolitical analyst Michael Horowitz said Israel is seeking a “lasting weakening, or even the fall of the Iranian regime, with the option of additional strikes if necessary.”

Last month, Netanyahu warned that Israel would retaliate if attacked by Iran, promising a “force Iran has never seen.”
