Deposed Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro’s next appearance before a US court, originally scheduled for 17 March in New York, has been postponed until 26 March, according to court filings released on Tuesday.
Prosecutors cited “scheduling and logistical issues” in their request, without providing further detail. The adjournment was agreed by the defence and approved by the judge.
Maduro’s lawyer did not respond to an AFP request for comment.
Making his first court appearance on 5 January, two days after being captured during a US military operation in Venezuela, the 63-year-old pleaded not guilty to drug trafficking charges and described himself as a “prisoner of war”.
Appearing alongside him was his wife, Cilia Flores, 69, who also entered a not guilty plea and is expected to return to court with her husband on 26 March.
Maduro ruled Venezuela with an iron grip from March 2013 until January 2026.
The country is now led by Delcy Rodriguez, who had served as his vice-president since 2018 and is currently working closely with Washington.
