Iran has not accepted all of the “red lines” set out by US President Donald Trump for a diplomatic resolution, Vice President JD Vance said on Tuesday following talks in Geneva.

Vance suggested that the United States remains interested in pursuing diplomacy, despite Trump’s warning that force could be used if Iran’s clerical leadership does not address key issues, beginning with its nuclear programme.

“In some ways, it went well; they agreed to meet afterwards,” Vance said in an interview with Fox News.

“But in other ways, it was very clear that the president has set some red lines that the Iranians are not yet willing to actually acknowledge and work through,” he told the programme The Story with Martha MacCallum.

“We’re going to keep on working on it. But of course, the president reserves the ability to say when he thinks that diplomacy has reached its natural end,” Vance added.

“We hope we don’t get to that point, but if we do, that will be the president’s call.”
