Imran Khan’s health condition drew renewed attention on Tuesday as the jailed former Pakistan prime minister received eye treatment at a government hospital in Islamabad.

According to a statement from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Imran Khan was brought to the hospital for a second dose of eye injections. The hospital said he was found to be clinically stable following the procedure.

Imran Khan, 73, has been in custody since 2023. In late 2025, he and his wife were sentenced to 17 years in prison on corruption charges, which both deny. His family and legal team have expressed concern about his deteriorating eyesight, stating that he has lost most of the vision in his right eye.

His lawyer, Salman Safdar, said earlier this month that one of Khan’s eyes retains only 15 per cent vision. His son, Kasim Khan, has alleged that his father’s condition stems from medical neglect during incarceration.

Khan’s press adviser, Sayed Zulfiqar Bukhari, welcomed the hospital visit but said authorities should allow access to Khan’s personal physician and family members to ensure adequate medical care.

The former prime minister served in office from 2018 until 2022, when he was removed through a parliamentary no-confidence vote amid escalating political tensions between his administration and Pakistan’s military establishment. Since leaving office, he has faced multiple legal proceedings on charges including corruption, which he and his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, describe as politically motivated.

His arrest in May 2023 triggered nationwide protests, some of which turned violent and led to widespread detentions.

International attention on Khan’s health intensified last week when more than a dozen former international cricket captains called on the Pakistani government to ensure that he receives adequate medical treatment.

Authorities have not indicated any change in his custodial status, and further updates on his health are expected as medical evaluations continue.
