The New York Times on Sunday reported that US intelligence information indicating that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei would attend a high-level meeting reportedly helped shape the timing and targeting of a US–Israeli strike on a leadership compound in Tehran.

According to the report, citing sources familiar with the operation, American intelligence agencies had been monitoring movements at the compound for months.

Authorities allegedly learned that senior Iranian officials were scheduled to gather at the location on Saturday morning.

The report claims that Washington and Tel Aviv initially planned to carry out the strikes at night but later adjusted the timing after receiving intelligence about the meeting.

The information was reportedly shared with Israeli counterparts, who conducted the operation. The strike reportedly hit a compound in central Tehran.

Iranian state media later confirmed that casualties occurred, and officials announced the deaths of several senior figures, including top military and security officials, although independent verification remains limited.

Following the attack, reports indicated that Iran launched retaliatory actions targeting locations across the region, including areas near Gulf states and facilities linked to US forces.

US President Donald Trump stated that military operations would continue “as long as necessary,” framing the strikes as part of broader security objectives.

The developments have heightened concerns about a wider regional escalation as diplomatic and military tensions continue to intensify.
