The United Arab Emirates has said its air defence systems were actively responding to incoming missiles and drones launched from Iran, as the regional conflict continues to widen across the Gulf.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the UAE Ministry of Defence confirmed that its forces were engaged in intercepting aerial threats, adding that sounds heard across parts of the country were linked to ongoing defensive operations. Authorities indicated that both missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) threats had been detected.

The development follows remarks from Iranian officials, reported by state media, indicating that Tehran had targeted industrial facilities in the UAE, including aluminium production sites, as well as US military infrastructure in neighbouring Kuwait.

Iran has repeatedly accused Gulf countries of facilitating US military operations against it, claims that regional governments have consistently denied. Gulf states have maintained that their territories and airspace are not being used to launch attacks on Iran, even prior to the current escalation.

Since the outbreak of hostilities in late February, Gulf countries have increasingly found themselves exposed to retaliatory strikes. The UAE, a key US ally and one of the few Arab states to have formal diplomatic ties with Israel, has been among the most frequently targeted.

The latest incident underscores the growing geographical spread of the conflict, with military activity now extending beyond its initial theatres to encompass critical economic and industrial hubs across the region.

As air defence systems remain on high alert, concerns are mounting over the potential for further escalation and the broader impact on regional security and global energy markets.
