British Prime Minister (PM) Keir Starmer has revealed that he held discussions with US President Donald Trump on potential military measures and logistical planning to ensure safe navigation through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking during an official visit to the Gulf region on Friday, Starmer said the talks focused on both diplomatic and practical responses to the ongoing tensions affecting global shipping routes.
He noted that efforts are underway to build a coalition of countries aimed at addressing the crisis through coordinated political, diplomatic, and security initiatives.
“We’ve been working with international partners on a diplomatic plan, while also assessing military capabilities and the logistics required to safely move vessels through the Strait,” Starmer said.
He added that his recent discussions in the Gulf were shared with Trump during their conversation, with particular emphasis on developing a workable strategy for maritime navigation.
Although the British PM did not provide detailed specifics about the potential military measures, his comments indicate growing concern among global leaders over disruptions in one of the world’s most critical energy corridors.
When asked whether he discussed US threats regarding withdrawal from NATO, Starmer avoided a direct response.
However, he reaffirmed the importance of the alliance, describing it as a longstanding defensive partnership that has played a key role in maintaining global security.
He stressed that continued cooperation between the US and its allies remains essential in addressing emerging geopolitical challenges.
