Gaza’s civil defence agency has said Israeli fire killed four people, including a child, across different locations in the Palestinian territory on Thursday.
Violence has continued despite a ceasefire in the Gaza war that came into effect on 10 October. Both Israel and Hamas have repeatedly accused each other of violations since the truce began.
Mahmoud Bassal, a spokesman for the civil defence agency, said nine-year-old Saleh Badawi “was killed and taken to Al-Maamadani Hospital after being hit by Israeli fire in the Zeitoun neighbourhood, southeast of Gaza City” in northern Gaza.
He added that “two brothers” were killed earlier in the day “following an Israeli drone strike” near a school in Beit Lahia, also in the north. A separate man, 38-year-old Mohsen Ouda Al-Dabbari, was “killed by Israeli fire” near Khan Yunis in the south.
The Israeli army said it killed “two terrorists” in Beit Lahia on Thursday after they crossed the Yellow Line, which marks the boundary of the area under Israeli control, and approached soldiers in a way that constituted an immediate threat. The army said it was verifying reports relating to the child and the man killed in the south.
The ceasefire followed more than two years of war triggered by the Hamas cross-border attack on Israel on 7 October 2023. Since the truce came into effect, at least 766 Palestinians have been killed, according to the Gaza health ministry, which is run by Hamas and whose figures are considered reliable by the United Nations.
The Israeli army has reported five soldiers killed since the start of the ceasefire.
Media restrictions and limited access in Gaza have prevented independent verification of casualty figures or full reporting from the ground.
