Negotiations between the United States and Iran have stalled despite renewed efforts to ease tensions following nearly two months of conflict, with major disagreements persisting over several critical issues.

At the centre of the deadlock is Iran’s nuclear programme. Washington is demanding a complete halt to Tehran’s nuclear activities, while Iran insists that any limitations can only be temporary and not permanent.

Another major sticking point is Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium, estimated at around 400 kilograms. US President Donald Trump has proposed placing the entire stockpile under US control, a demand that Tehran has rejected outright.

Tensions also remain high over maritime restrictions. Iran has said it will continue limiting shipping through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz until US sanctions on its ports are lifted. The United States, however, has made it clear that sanctions relief will only come after a comprehensive agreement is reached.

Sanctions and financial issues are another key area of dispute. Iran is seeking the release of around $20 billion in frozen assets held overseas as part of any long-term deal.

Additionally, Tehran has demanded compensation of approximately $270 billion, arguing that the United States and Israel should pay for damages caused during recent military actions.

With both sides holding firm on these issues, analysts say reaching a breakthrough in the talks remains uncertain, and further negotiations may be required before any agreement can be finalised.
