Iran’s ambassador to Russia has confirmed that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived at Saint Petersburg on Monday morning for a meeting with Vladimir Putin on the current surrounding issues, negotiations, the ceasefire and other relevant regional issues.

Moscow’s TASS news agency confirmed earlier that Putin plans to meet Araghchi, citing the Kremlin spokesman named Dmitry Peskov.

The ambassador, Kazem Jalali, made the remarks to Iran’s state-linked ISNA news agency, highlighting the close ties between Tehran and Moscow, according to Al Jazeera.

He said that Araghchi’s visit will focus on ‘the latest status of negotiations, the ceasefire and surrounding developments'.

Jalali also noted ongoing high-level contacts between the two countries since the start of what he referred to as the “Ramadan War," the term used by Iranian officials to describe the US-Israeli conflict.

He added that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has spoken three times with Russian President Vladimir Putin since the escalation of hostilities began, underscoring continued diplomatic engagement between Tehran and Moscow.

The visit comes amid continuing regional tensions, following months of conflict and ceasefire efforts involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, as diplomatic channels remain active but inconclusive.
