French President Emmanuel Macron has urged the United States and Iran to work together to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in a "coordinated" manner. Speaking at a meeting of European leaders in Armenia on Monday, the French leader described a joint approach as the only viable solution for restoring normal shipping through the strategically vital waterway.

The appeal comes as the United States military continues a mission to escort commercial vessels through the strait. The operation was initiated following an announcement by US President Donald Trump that American forces would "guide" ships through the passage, which has been the site of heightening regional tensions.

President Emmanuel Macron stated that France remains committed to restoring stability but ruled out immediate participation in the current American-led military efforts. He noted that his country would not take part in any military operation within a framework that appeared "unclear."

France has previously worked alongside Britain to lead diplomatic efforts aimed at assembling a coalition to reopen the strait once peace is secured. The French President emphasised that any long-term resolution depends on de-escalation and cooperation between Washington and Tehran to ensure the security of global trade routes.
