Iran has firmly denied that a final peace agreement has been reached with the United States, directly contradicting recent claims made by US President Donald Trump.
President Trump recently announced that he had agreed to a “great settlement” to end the ongoing conflict. He also stated that he expected to sign the official deal in Europe within the coming days.
However, Iran’s foreign ministry was quick to reject these statements. Speaking on Friday, foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei made it clear that the Iranian government has not yet come to a final decision regarding the proposed agreement.
The Iranian press has also cast heavy doubt on the US President’s announcement. The Tasnim news agency pointed out that Mr Trump has claimed a deal was imminent 38 times over the past two months alone.
The news agency issued a strong warning to the public and international observers. They stated that until Iran officially confirms an agreement has been reached, any news from the US President should be treated with the exact same caution as his previous messages.
Ultimately, this situation highlights that whilst Washington is speaking positively about peace, Tehran has still yet to secure a genuine and finalised agreement.
