Millions of internet users around the world lost access to their social media Friday around 7:30 pm. Major global outage hits Meta’s biggest platforms Facebook and Instagram.
The problems started around 7:30 pm Bangladesh time. Since then, people, creators, and businesses have been completely unable to load their feeds, post pictures, or message their friends. Many users trying to log in are simply seeing error messages, blank screens, or finding themselves logged out of their accounts.
As soon as Facebook and Instagram stopped working, frustrated users flocked to other websites like X (formerly Twitter) to see if others were having the same issue. Hashtags about the crash quickly started trending worldwide.
This sudden blackout shows just how much we rely on Meta for our daily news, chats, and shopping. For small businesses that use Instagram and Facebook to sell their goods and talk to customers, even a short amount of downtime can mean losing money.
Currently, we do not know exactly what caused the crash. It is not clear if it is a simple server glitch or a much larger system failure. Meta has not yet made an official statement to explain the problem, nor have they told us when the apps will be fixed.
Behind the scenes, tech teams are surely working hard to get things running again. Until the servers are fixed and stabilised, the world will have to wait while one of the biggest tech companies tries to bring its sites back online.
