A US-Iran agreement aimed at ending the ongoing Middle East conflict is set to be formally signed on Friday at Switzerland’s Burgenstock resort, according to the Swiss foreign ministry.

The announcement follows confirmation that Washington and Tehran had reached a memorandum of understanding on Sunday, intended to bring an end to the war that began on 28 February after US-Israeli strikes on Iran and subsequently spread across the region.

In a statement, the Swiss foreign ministry said, “At this stage, the signing is scheduled for 19 June at Burgenstock.” The resort, located in the mountains above Lake Lucerne, is known for its remote and secure setting, being surrounded by water on three sides and offering limited access points.

Swiss authorities noted that the venue was jointly proposed by mediators from Pakistan and Qatar, as well as by both the United States and Iran. Switzerland, meanwhile, is acting as a facilitator, providing logistical and diplomatic support to enable the signing to take place on its territory.

The agreement follows weeks of intense negotiations marked by disagreements and threats of renewed escalation. A senior US official said the framework deal has already been signed electronically by US President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Iran’s deputy foreign minister Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who is also the country’s chief negotiator.

However, the full text of the agreement has not been made public, leaving uncertainty over the precise terms reached. Key sticking points reportedly included Iran’s nuclear programme, sanctions relief, and issues surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.

Vice President JD Vance told CNN that the document is “about a page and a half,” describing it as a broad and general framework rather than a detailed treaty.
