Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) nations have thrown their support behind the recently announced agreement between the United States and Iran, describing it as a significant diplomatic breakthrough and a rare opportunity to prevent further escalation in the Middle East.
In a joint position, the G7 leaders welcomed the accord as an important step towards ensuring that Iran does not acquire a nuclear weapon. They expressed readiness to support the implementation of the agreement and encouraged continued diplomatic engagement to build on the momentum created by the deal.
The leaders said the agreement offers a valuable opportunity to reduce tensions in the region and called for a broader diplomatic framework that could help establish lasting peace and security across the Middle East. They stressed the importance of pursuing a comprehensive follow-on arrangement that addresses wider regional concerns beyond the initial accord.
The G7 also underscored the need to keep the Strait of Hormuz open to international shipping without restrictions, additional charges or disruptions. The strategic waterway remains one of the world’s most important energy transit routes, and uninterrupted navigation is considered vital for global trade and energy security.
Addressing the situation in Lebanon, the leaders voiced support for an immediate and robust ceasefire and backed efforts by the Lebanese state to strengthen its authority and pursue the disarmament of Hezbollah.
On the Palestinian issue, the G7 pledged to intensify humanitarian assistance and reconstruction efforts in Gaza while supporting the rapid implementation of relevant political and security measures. The leaders also called for an end to violence in the occupied West Bank, emphasising the need for stability and protection of civilians.
The statement reflects the G7’s broader commitment to promoting diplomacy, regional security and humanitarian relief as the Middle East navigates a period of significant political change.
