Here are the key points from the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the United States and Iran to end the Middle East war, the text of which was made public by Washington and Tehran:
End of military conflict
The United States, Iran, and their respective allies agree to an immediate and permanent halt to all military operations across all theatres, including Lebanon. Both sides commit not to use force or issue threats against each other and to respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
60-day timeline for final deal
Washington and Tehran will enter negotiations aimed at reaching a comprehensive final agreement within 60 days, with the possibility of extension if both sides agree.
End of US blockade measures
The United States will begin lifting its blockade on Iranian ports immediately, with full removal expected within 30 days. It will also withdraw its military presence near Iran within 30 days after a final agreement is signed.
Strait of Hormuz reopening
Iran is expected to ensure safe and toll-free passage for commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz for a limited 60-day period. Full restoration of traffic is planned within 30 days after clearance of naval mines in the waterway.
Economic reconstruction package
A reconstruction and development plan worth at least $300 billion will be prepared by the US and regional partners to support Iran’s post-war recovery.
Sanctions relief
The US commits to ending sanctions on Iran and releasing frozen or restricted Iranian assets once the memorandum is fully implemented. Immediate waivers will allow Iranian oil exports, petroleum sales, and related financial and shipping services to resume.
Nuclear commitments
Iran confirms it will not pursue nuclear weapons. Its enriched uranium stockpile will be managed through a jointly agreed mechanism under International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) supervision. During the interim period, Iran maintains its nuclear status quo, while the US pledges no new sanctions or troop deployments.
Mediation and signing
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the agreement was electronically signed by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, with a formal ceremony planned in Switzerland to launch technical negotiations.
UN endorsement
The final agreement is expected to be formalised through a binding United Nations Security Council resolution.
