A group of leaders from Bangladesh recently took part in a two-day conference in Pakistan to talk about ways to support women. The event, called the ninth Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ministerial Conference on Women, brought together leaders from many different countries and ended on Monday.

The team from Bangladesh was led by Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, who is the Minister for women and children affairs and social welfare. Other ministert officials joined the meeting, including Yasmeen Parveen, the Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, and Dr Md Mahmudul Haque. The Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan, Md Iqbal Hussain Khan, was also there.

During the event, Professor Zahid Hossain sat down for a private meeting with Iran’s Vice President for Women and Family Affairs, Zahra Behrouz Azar. They talked about how their countries can work together to build fairer communities and help families.

Professor Zahid Hossain shared how Bangladesh is working hard to help women improve their lives. He specifically talked about the country’s new “Family Card” programme, which gives extra support to women and their households. The minister suggested that Bangladesh and Iran should work closer together in areas like schools, healthcare, and welfare programmes for women and children.

Zahra Behrouz Azar praised Bangladesh’s efforts and called the country a great example for how to support women. She also thanked Bangladesh for sending Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad to represent the country at the recent funeral for Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The Iranian Vice President spoke about how women in Iran are doing very well in education. She said it is important for Muslim nations to join hands to help women succeed, and she invited the Bangladeshi minister to visit Iran in the future to keep talking about these plans.
