Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised a forceful security response following violent clashes in the occupied West Bank that resulted in five deaths.
The Palestinian health ministry confirmed that four Palestinians were shot dead during the incident in the village of Tel, located in the north of the West Bank near Nablus.
Hospital officials reported that four other Palestinians were injured during the confrontation, with three remaining in a critical condition.
Israel's national emergency medical service, Magen David Adom, separately reported that a 30-year-old Israeli man died as a result of the violence.
The Israeli military stated that its forces acted after an attack on Israeli civilians in the area.
In an official statement released on Friday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that security forces would move swiftly against those involved in the incident.
He declared that the government would act with full force against suspected militants and their sponsors, adding that security would be maintained across Judea and Samaria, using the biblical name for the West Bank.
The Prime Minister confirmed plans to convene an urgent meeting with senior defence and security officials to decide on immediate countermeasures.
Security personnel have increased patrols across the northern West Bank as investigations into the exact sequence of events continue.
