Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that more than 200 American military personnel were killed after the United States allegedly breached a memorandum of understanding (MoU) intended to end recent hostilities between the two countries.
The claim, made by IRGC spokesman General Hossein Mohebbi, has not been independently verified, and there has been no immediate response from US authorities to the figures presented by Iran.
According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency, Gen Mohebbi dismissed official US casualty reports as inaccurate, accusing Washington of deliberately concealing the true scale of its military losses.
He said, “Iranian forces targeted eight locations used by US troops during what Tehran has described as Operation Nasr II, which it says was launched in response to American military strikes carried out over the past two weeks.”
Gen Mohebbi claimed one of the attacks destroyed 20 military shelters and said the number of injured personnel was considerably higher than the reported death toll.
He also challenged US officials to allow journalists to inspect the affected military sites so that independent assessors could evaluate the extent of the damage.
“The American people should not allow their lying commanders to think they are stupid,” he was quoted as saying by Tasnim.
The latest remarks come as tensions between Tehran and Washington remain high following nearly two weeks of military exchanges.
Tasnim reported that US forces had continued air strikes against Iran for 13 consecutive nights, targeting what it described as civilian infrastructure.
The agency also said, “Iranian forces had responded by striking strategic American positions across West Asia.”
Tasnim further reported that military action involving the United States and Israel against Iran began on 28 February before both sides agreed to a ceasefire on 8 April.
According to the report, Tehran and Washington later signed a Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding on 17 June aimed at ending hostilities and creating a framework for further negotiations. Iranian officials now allege that the United States has failed to honour that agreement, prompting Tehran to launch its latest military response.
The United States has not publicly confirmed the Iranian claims regarding casualties or the alleged destruction of military facilities. Independent verification of the battlefield claims remains unavailable.
